We have designed this program to assist in two forms of ‘returning to throw’. These two forms are acute injury and rest period. We have built this program with the collaboration of health professionals; physical therapist as well as generalized return to throw programming issued by orthopedics following surgical procedure when patients are officially cleared for ‘return to throw’.
Our program is designed to help guide players professionally and intuitively through a throwing program tailored specifically to each athlete’s needs after extended time off or after an acute injury that required a shutdown period, physical therapy, or surgery.
Player and Parent Expectations:
- Each player will be written an individualized pre-throwing warmup, utilize the time and space of the facility to complete their in person throwing session with Colby Maun, and then complete their post throwing recovery arm care / strength exercises as time allows after their throwing session.
- Colby Maun will work individually with each athlete to establish proper throwing mechanics with the assistance of Dustin Pease.
- Video analysis will be utilized during the later stages of the program when athletes are starting to implement the slope of the mound into their throwing sessions.
- Every player’s recovery timeline will be unique! Professional wisdom and guidance will be given as athlete navigates the throwing program.
- Colby Maun reserves the right to cut a throwing session short if there is improper soreness or pain involved during the throwing session. We will then use the remaining time for post throwing recovery, arm care exercises, and MarcPro as needed.
- Once the Return to Throw program has progressed to the point of being able to throw without pain or proper soreness (muscle soreness is going to be unique based on movement screen and evaluation completed by Colby & / or physical therapist) at 75% intensity with throwing changeups and off speed pitches, the athlete can expect to complete their throwing with a PBP Pitching / Skill Coach or their personal pitching coach.
Players Needs:
- Ability to complete 2 days of throwing done outside the facility. (If this is not possible, there is potential for our return to throw athletes to rent our facility space to get their throwing in during quiet hours)
- Have clear, concise, and continued communication between sports medicine team (physical therapists and doctors), Colby Maun, and our skill staff at Pease Baseball Professionals.

“We ultimately want to make sure that our players are healthy, and take necessary steps to reduce the risk of injury. We also feel its important to the mental state of pitchers returning from acute injuries or surgery to have that support system around them. It can be a lonely place in the sports world when an athlete is on the sidelines watching everyone else going full speed, while they are in recovery. Our staff cares about all of our players deeply – especially those injured, and we want to help them safely get back to game ready. This program has been designed to help players have that place to get their return to throw program in, with supervision, care, and collaboration with health professionals. We are excited to offer this service to our baseball / softball community.”
